In Search Of A Title For My Newest Teacup Painting

"Today I'd like to sit and sip, forget about the world a bit, ignore the things I have to do, and just enjoy a cup or two.  Will you join me for some tea and company?"

This pretty floral teacup and saucer dusted with roses is my newest treasure.  I came across it last week in Cranbrook, while waiting for my husband to recover from a day surgery.  As I was walking past the hospital gift shop, I spied it sitting on a shelf and I could almost hear it beckoning me in.  A completed teacup painting flashed before my eye's and I knew immediately that it was mine!  Here, I've paired it with violet primrose blossom's and cutwork linen from my personal collection.

I will"live with it" over the weekend and see if anything shout's out at me to be adjusted.  I'm thinking the background need's to be a bit darker on the upper right side, and of course, a better photograph!  The size is approximately 6.25 x 7.75 inches.  I'm leaning towards Lady May as the title for this painting.  Any suggestions?

Primroses And Tea ~ A Sneak Peak In The Studio This Week

Step 1: I'm fine-tuning the sketch, lightly penciling in the flower pattern along with the highlights and shadow details.  I've had to re-draw the base of the teacup, yet again......I think it's working now.  At this stage I have to really force myself to be patient, as all I want to do is dive into the paint and start dropping in colour!

Step 2:  Finally!  My first few glazes of colour.  My favorite part of the painting.  Anticipation is high as with each brush load of paint the initial shapes slowly emerge from the white of the paper.

Awakenings II, Companion Watercolour Of Spring Blossoms

I had plans to spend lot's of time in the studio last week, but that's not what happened!  Still, I managed to find a bit of time on the weekend to complete this small watercolour painting of Pink Dogwood Blossoms as a companion to my earlier painting of the White Dogwood Blossoms. 

Both paintings are approximately 7.5 x 6.5 inches and painted on 300lb cold press paper.  I liked the challenge of painting these delicate blossoms on this heavy textured paper. While it was a bit tricky sketching the ink lines, keeping the overall design simple helped a lot.

Awakenings, My 1st Watercolour Painting of 2015

Some call flowering dogwood the "queen" of North American forests. This flowering dogwood is considered a beautiful ornamental tree with great appeal in all seasons.  

It "awakens" with showy flowers in the spring, and has graceful, arching branches with curved leaves and crimson berries that attract birds throughout the summer.  In Autumn dogwoods put on a brilliant display of red.  In the winter the bark puts on its own showy display with its unusual color and texture.     

The image size of this small study is 7.5 x 6.5 inches.   I'll be posting it for sale on-line by the weekend.  

Next week I'll be posting the progress of a teacup painting that I am working on and perhaps another small study of pink dogwood blossoms!

Happy New Year And A Look Back At My Favorite Paintings From 2014

JANUARY 1, 2015  is here ~ HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I look forward to a new year full of endless possibilities!  I've just finished up an intensive review of my 2014 goals and objectives.  Based on what I've learned I have created my list for 2015 and I'm excited to get started!  But before I do.......
